Opportunity to help organise the St Mary's Summer Fair

Added on Tuesday, February 23, 2010

A meeting at 8.00pm on Tuesday 23rd February outlined the opportunity for more people to join the organising committee for our fantastic Summer Fair but it's not to late to volunteer - Speak to Jenny Shaw.

The meeting invitation was sent out by email to the parish - if you wish to be on this circulation list, please contact Michaela in the Church Office churchoffice@worplesdonparish.com :

Your Church Needs You!

We are looking for volunteers with enthusiasm, time and ideas to join the Organising Committee for this years Summer Fair at St Mary's which is to be held on 26 June.

Some of the work involves:

·         Advertising – (finding advertisers for programme, local company to sponsor two large banners) advertising the event in Surrey Ad, websites, local shops, local radio etc etc). Foxton’s boards

·         Catering – Organising all the food and drink outlets, pricing, signs and finding people to man the different stalls i.e. Teas / Coffees/ Meals from the kitchen /Hog Roast or BBQ/ Bar/ Ice creams. Purchasing (or arranging for purchase ) of whatever supplies are needed.

·         Stalls and Sideshows – Organising all internally run stalls, advertising for donations, ensuring manned. Contacting external stallholders and offering a pitch (core list who have been before). Trying to get some new ideas for stalls and sideshows.

·         Entertainment (identify groups who will come in and do a performance at a certain time / music etc. School groups / local groups - youngsters to bring the crowds in). Tug of War? Celebrity to open the fair?

·         Programme – Artwork / design to include advertisers / sponsors/ events/ site map/ stalls.

·         Raffle (mixed views about pre printed tickets vs on the day. The former needs some really good, universally appealing and not too local prizes so people can sell at work etc.) If anyone can get any good prizes please start to do so!

·         The public competition – Letter to schools and groups inviting them to take part in whatever the competition is! (fancy dress?). Letter needs to go out after Feb half term to hit their planning window.

If you think you can help organise the event please come to a meeting at 8pm on 23 February in St Mary's Room.

If you can't help organise but can help on the day please e mail Jenny Shaw.

Welcome to Worplesdon Parish

Welcome! Our two churches St Mary’s, Worplesdon and St Alban’s, Wood Street Village are dedicated to serving the communities of Worplesdon, Fairlands and Wood Street Village – we hope our parish is like a "light set on a hill"

Services range from the quiet contemplation of daily morning and evening prayer through to Weekly Parish Communion services at both churches on Sunday or if you fancy exploring something a little bit different try our monthly iWorship.

Vibrant and energetic, our children are an integral part of parish life who are free to worship in their own way. We love welcoming them with many different activities from toy bags to Sunday clubs as well as our monthly Family service – come and find out!

St Mary's and St Alban's

Worplesdon PCC has a regular schedule of services at both St Alban's and St Mary's, details of Special Services throughout the year can be found on our Calendar of Events.
