Is there a matter that you think your PCC should be considering?
Please ask one of the Churchwardens, Clergy, PCC members or Sally Gregory, PCC Secretary, pccsecretary@worplesdonparish.com) to add it to an agenda.
About the PCC
The Parochial Church Council (or PCC) provides an official, elected body that, in conjunction with the Rector, shares responsibility for the parish and in promoting the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical.
Members of the PCC are either ex officio, co-opted or elected by the Annual Parish Meeting in accordance with the Church Representation Rules. The PCC meets a minimum of six times per year. There are 12 elected members plus three Deanery Synod representatives. Members may serve a maximum of three terms of three years. Our Reader and PCC Secretary are co-opted members.
Meetings start at 8pm and aim to end at 9.45pm followed by saying Compline together including a time of intercession for the parish.
The PCC operates through the Standing Committee and a number of Vision Groups, which meet between full meetings of the PCC:
Standing Committee - It has the power to transact the business of the PCC between its meetings, subject to any directions given by the Council. Membership: Rector, Church Wardens and two people appointed by the PCC - normally the Treasurer and Secretary.
Worship & Nurture Vision Group - Assists in developing the worship of the parish; providing varied environments and opportunities to meet the differing needs of those attending our churches and developing the spiritual life of our congregations and opportunities for life-long spiritual nurture.
Witness Vision Group - To support the way the Church communicates and fosters a sense of community both within the Church family and the parish as a whole, fostering a sense of service to the local area and developing our engagement with social and world-wide church issues, including building links with those organisations supported by our outward-giving (Our policy is to give 10% of PCC income).
We have a monthly parish magazine called 'Crossway' supplemented by a weekly notice sheet 'Crossway Supplement' and an annual 'Crossway Extra' which is delivered to all households in the parish. Easter and Christmas cards are also distributed across the parish and we also support Christian Aid week.
Property Vision Group - To oversee the maintenance of our church buildings and to ensure they are properly cared for and are fit for the mission and work of the Gospel in the parish.
Finance Vision Group - To ensure the wise stewardship of our financial resources and to assist in deepening the financial commitment of the congregation in the light of the needs of ministry and mission in the parish and diocese. Membership: Church Wardens (Co-ordinators), PCC Treasurer, Representatives of Worship & Nurture, Witness and Property Vision Groups, and Planned Giving Secretaries.
The Parish Clergy and Church Wardens are ex-officio members of all vision groups. The vision groups meet a minimum of three times annually. Each is lay led and each has a mix of PCC members and invited members of the congregations. Churchwardens are Joint Vice-Chairs of the PCC.
There is also a FUNd-Raising Group that organises social and fund-raising activities and whose work is monitored by the Witness Group.
